Birgit Rutishauser and Andreas Akeret join Sympany’s Board of Directors

Basel, 7 July 2026 – Sympany’s Board of Directors is undergoing changes. Dominic Rau, a member of the Board of Directors since 2024, is taking over the role of Vice Chair and Head of the Finance and Risk Committee from Martha Scheiber, who has to temporarily scale back her duties for personal reasons but will remain a member of the Board of Directors. As of 31 December 2026, Jürg Galliker, a long-standing member of the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board, will be stepping down from the Board due to the limitation on the term of office. Last week, Birgit Rutishauser and Andreas Akeret were elected as new members; they will take office next year. By being elected to the Board of Directors, they will also become members of the Sympany Foundation Board.

Birgit Rutishauser (54) was a member of the FINMA Executive Board until 2025 and has held various positions there since 2016, most recently as Head of Insurance Supervision and Deputy Director. The qualified ETH mathematician and actuary with an MAS in Finance began her career in actuarial services and underwriting at Zurich Re (now called Scor), where she also gained international experience. She then moved to underwriting at Zurich Insurance, where she progressed to the Executive Board. At Nationale Suisse, she was a member of the Executive Board as Chief Underwriting & Risk Management Officer.

Andreas Akeret (49) is the co-founder, CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Yarowa, a digital platform for service provider management and order management that is established in the insurance industry. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and has many years of operational and strategic experience in the insurance industry. He has held various management positions in sales, operations, benefit management and IT. He started his career at Bluewin before transferring to Swiss Life. Before founding Yarowa, he worked at Zurich Insurance.
