Repair models for comprehensive damage

Comprehensive insurance also protects your vehicle against damage caused through your own fault, force majeure (storm, hail damage, wildlife accidents, fire, etc.) or theft.

With the motor vehicle insurance car, you can choose from two different repair models for comprehensive damage when you take out your contract. 

“Partner garage” repair model

With the “partner garage” repair model, you undertake to have your vehicle repaired at a Sympany partner garage in the event of a comprehensive claim (damage to your car / delivery van). In return, you benefit from various advantages.

You benefit from a reduction in your comprehensive premium. The reduction is already taken into account in the premium. 
 

Other benefits in the event of a claim:

  • Free pick-up and drop-off service for your vehicle
  • Free replacement vehicle for the duration of the repair
  • Guarantee on work carried out

Please note: The benefits in the event of a claim only apply for an insured comprehensive event.

  • Passenger cars
  • Delivery vans

The “partner garage’ repair model is unfortunately not available for all other types of vehicles as well as passenger cars or delivery vehicles insured as vintage cars.

What do I have to do in the event of a claim?
Contact us immediately by calling +41 58 521 11 75 or emailing E-Mail before bringing your vehicle for repair. The repair must then be carried out in a repair workshop approved by Sympany.

If you are unable to contact us or if you have already found a suitable partner garage, you can also bring your car or delivery van directly to one of our partner garages. However, it is usually quicker if you contact us in advance. That’s because this allows us to check which partner garage has the capacity to carry out the repair as quickly as possible.

In certain cases, you are not obliged to use a partner garage. Please note the exceptions.

If you have the repair carried out at a repair workshop that has not been confirmed by Sympany, your contract will be switched from the “partner garage” repair model to the “free choice of garage” repair model from the start of the contract. The discount for partner garage calculated in the comprehensive premium then no longer applies and you will have to pay the additional premium. You are then no longer obliged to select Sympany partner garages in the event of a claim. No penalty excess or similar will be charged.

Situations or claims where your obligations do not apply and you are unable to benefit from the advantages:

  • damage to glass (breakage to glass vehicle parts);
  • damage caused by martens (damage and consequential damage caused by bites from martens and rodents);
  • you have a full-service leasing contract that obliges you to carry out repairs in certain repair workshops;
  • the repair is carried out abroad;
  • the police have your vehicle towed after an accident and you are unable to report the damage to us in advance for medical reasons;
  • the repair does not relate to an insured comprehensive event.

“Free choice of garage” repair model

With the “free choice of garage” repair model, you are free to choose the repair workshop in the event of a comprehensive claim (damage to your car / delivery van). You pay a small surcharge in the comprehensive premium for this compared to the “partner garage” repair model. If you still opt for a Sympany partner garage in the event of a claim, you will of course benefit from the advantages.

  • Reduction of your policy excess by CHF 100
