Positive financial year closes with good results

The strategic realignment is bearing fruit – Sympany reports a profit of CHF 22.5 million for the 2024 financial year. With equity of CHF 395 million and a solvency ratio well above the legal minimum, the company’s foundations remain very sound. Sympany records above-average customer growth as of 2025.

Basel, 25 April 2025 – Sympany has concluded the reporting year with a profit of CHF 22.5 million. The total premium volume rose to CHF 1.25 billion, while net benefits rose to CHF 1.09 billion. In basic insurance, the underwriting result almost covered costs, while the earnings performance in supplementary insurance remained stable and positive. Capital investments made a significant contribution to the good result. Equity increased to CHF 395 million and the solvency ratio is once again well above the legal minimum. Sympany is therefore very well positioned to cushion any future cost fluctuations or fluctuations in its capital investments.

“A number of factors were decisive for the positive annual financial statement,” explains CEO Christian Conti. “In addition to cost-covering premiums and consistent management of costs of benefits, the adjustments we initiated in 2023 and continued in 2024 are also starting to take effect.” The strategic realignment continues to focus on efficiency – in particular streamlining the organisation and reducing administrative costs – as well as digital transformation.

Selected results
In basic insurance, the premium volume grew by CHF 103 million to CHF 1.02 billion, while net benefits increased by CHF 48 million (5.5%) to CHF 927 million. Expenses for risk compensation increased by CHF 24 million to CHF 50 million. The combined ratio improved significantly to 101.6%. In supplementary insurance, the premium volume declined by around CHF 7 million to CHF 224 million. At the same time, costs of benefits fell by around CHF 11 million (6.4%) to CHF 159 million. Sympany maintained the good profitability of the previous year in its corporate customer business with loss of income and accident insurances.

Strong customer growth as of 2025
Sympany was supporting around 276,200 customers under basic insurance in accordance with the HIA as of 1 January 2025. This is nearly 29,000 more policyholders than in the previous year. The increase was particularly large in urban premium regions with a good premium positioning. Customer numbers in basic insurance for border commuters also rose pleasingly.

Commitment to counter rising healthcare costs
In the fight against rising healthcare costs, Sympany took targeted measures, ranging from checking invoices and negotiating collective agreements with service providers to reducing its own administrative costs. In its Private Customers business, Sympany reviewed around 3.5 million invoices for medical services. Thanks to consistent invoice verification, it was possible to prevent the payment of unjustified amounts totalling several million francs, which ultimately also contributes to curbing cost growth.

Expansion of digital services
Sympany strives to continuously simplify standard processes using digitisation, automation and artificial intelligence. In the reporting year, for example, the customer portal and the mySympany app were expanded with additional functions, including in particular the frequently requested and heavily used self-service options for customers, such as the inclusion or exclusion of accident insurance and the change to the deductible. Another new feature is the voicebot, which greets policyholders on the phone and is designed to reduce waiting times and prevent incorrect forwarding. Sympany wants to use the new technologies to offer its policyholders even better services. The services also create the conditions for continuously optimising internal processes and further reducing administrative costs.
