By increasing your annual franchise you can save up to 50% on your basic insurance premium.

Under the Law on Health Insurance (KVG), if costs for a doctor, hospital treatment or medication are payable, the policyholders must themselves first assume part of these costs in each calendar year. This initial cost contribution is known as the annual franchise.Where the costs exceed the agreed franchise in a calendar year, the health insurance assumes 90% of the additional costs. (10% deductible is payable by the insured).

A change of franchise can only occur at the beginning of the relevant calendar year.
